Can my pupils access the eLanguages system?

Your pupils can access any of the public eLanguages pages.

  • at any computer connected to the internet: For example you can pass the web address of your project page or a sub page of your project page to your pupils.
  • in the classroom: You can open your eLanguages project space in the classroom using an electronic whiteboard, computer with or without a data projector and use, add or modify resources in a classroom activity.

Any resources created by students (worksheets, documents, images etc.) must be added to the system by the teacher. He or she is responsible for the content added to the project page.

What if I want to open a project to many partner schools and not just one?

A project is open to as many partners as you like. You (and your partners) decide how many teachers you allow to your project. Keep in mind that the purpose of eLanguages is to help you add an international dimension to your existing classroom activities. Keeping your project small will help you to achieve this objective by avoiding delays associated with running bigger projects.

I am not a language teacher. Can I still benefit from eLanguages?

Any teacher can use eLanguages. You do not have to be a language teacher to register with eLanguages.

What kinds of activities have other schools used this site for?

The best way to learn what other schools are using the site for is to browse the existing eLanguages projects.

How long does my project have to last?

A project can last from a day to a week to few months. We encourage users to keep their projects short. Better to do three small, self-contained projects rather than a single big sprawling one. You can start a new project at any time, either after you finished another project or even in parallel to other projects.

I want a partner school in a country that is not listed. What do I do?

Find a partner on the Global Gateway partner finder tool and invite them to sign up for eLanguages. At the same time contact the eLanguages Team about adding that country to the list of supported countries.

We're already linked to a partner school. What do I do?

You set up a project space and invite your colleague at your partner school to register with the eLanguages system. As soon as their registration has been approved he or she can join the project and your collaboration can continue using the eLanguages platform.

Do I have to carry out projects with pupils of the same age group?

No, not necessarily. You have to set a target age. For example you can do a project in which 10-11-year-olds create lesson resources for 7-8-year-olds in another country. The target age in this case is 7-8 year olds.

How can I change the order of the way different resources appear?

You can change the order of resources with a cut and paste operation. In edit mode you will find an insertion point above and below every resource on your project pages. To move a resource you cut the resource to your clipboard and paste it again at a new insertion point on the same page or on a different project page.

TIP: You can add a folder to your project page and cut/paste or add resources into a folder.

What do I use the clipboard function for?

You use the clipboard function to copy/paste or cut/paste resources. During every cut or copy operation your resource will be added to your clipboard. With a paste operation you will be presented with a list of resources in your clipboard and an option to select the resource you would like to paste back on a page.

How many projects can I "watch" at one time?

As many as you want to. The watch function is available for members only and can be found after login at the bottom right corner of every page.
