Hello. I propose that each one of the participants of this Project, write a Legend or Myth that it is very known especially in your country, each participant Country would tell a Legend especially (and or more students would write). All participant would send our Legends to each other would set up like this, a type of Collective Book, Containing the Legends or Myths more famous of each country.
Let me start with an Ancient Egyptian legend which is considered one of the most exciting legends. It is a love story between Isis and Ozeris who were brother and sister, as the Ancient Egyptians used to marry a brother to a sister. There was Set, the god of evil, who hated and envied them so he cut the body of Ozoris into pieces and threw each piece in a distant part of the other inside the Nile. His beloved wife Isis didn't lose hope and went round the Nile collecting each piece of her beloved husband till she gathered all parts then he returned to life and both lived together happily . Is it a nice legend? Of course there are some events that seemed imaginative but at the end it's a legend but the characters are real and were found in history of the Ancient Egyptians. If you liked this one, there are a lot but my students can get you more. If you sent your students' emails they can correspond together. As for me, I liked the topic and I hope to continue, especially after your welcoming messages. Or you might like to know about Ancient Egyptian curses and how it affected those who discovered Tot Angh Amun tomb. These are some legends, to name just a few.
We adored the Legend on Osiris, the students are drawing, my director wants to do an exhibition on the theme. Thank you very much for allowing for us Brazilian to know a little more on the wonderful culture of Beautiful Country: Egypt. Please, could you write more Legends for us? Thanks From Beth and Stdents in Brazil
Todays' legend is about Ra the God of the sun and he has great power. If he wants to do anything, he just mentions it, then it's done. Of course, it's a myth or rather a legend, but the Ancient Egyptians believed in his power. Here's the legend: Ra, the Shining One, rose out of the mists that covered the waters. Nun, the spirit of the waters, floated above him. Ra was all powerful and his power came from his Secret Name. This gave him the power to create a thing just by calling its name. He said "I am Khepera at the dawn, Ra at noon and Tum in the evening." And the sun rose in the east and traveled across the sky to set in the west. Thus he created the first day. He then named Shu, the keeper of the wind, and Tefnut, the spitter of rain. "Geb" he spoke, and the earth rose up from the sea. Nut was named and she stretched her body across the sky from one horizon to the other to form the arch that held the stars and path for the sun and moon. Hapi he named last and the River Nile flowed through Egypt bringing life to the land. He named all things on earth and lastly named Man and Woman, and they multipied to live in prosperity on the banks of the Nile. Do you like the Ancient Egyptians now? They were great people and they had a great civilization. Now tell me your opinion and your feedback.
A teacher from poland showed interest in the Ancient Egyptian legends and she wrote a poland legend. Here it's :
Polish students, of course learn about Ancient Egypt and like its history very much. But it's so fascinating to hear about it from the descendants of those incredible people.
As far as Brazilian legends are concerned, we will be happy to learn something about that distant (for us!)and beautiful country.
Let us share our legend with you.
Once upon a time, a cruel dragon lived in a cave near the king's castle in Cracow. He attacked and ate cows, sheep and other domestic animals. It forced some people to escape from the town. The rest of the inhabitants asked their king for help. The king, whose name was Krak, promised a reward to the brave man who would defeat the creature.
A lot of knights tried but no one could do it. It seemed that Cracow was lost when a poor shoemaker came to Krak. He wanted to trap the dragon. He took the sheep, filled it with sulphur, sewed it carefully and put it in front of the dragon's cave. The greedy animal ate the sheep. after a while he felt very thirsty and started drinking water form the river. He drank so much that he finally burst into pieces. This way the shoemaker saved the town, and became the hero.
Nowadays, the cave which is situated near the king's castle is called the Dragon's Cave.
That's all for now, Zuzanna.
Hi Beth and her wonderful students, How nice to write to you again. I have the pleasure today to talk to you about the legend of the Ancient Egyptians' curse. Many people believe that there is a curse on the tomb of the Egyptian pharaoh Tutankamun. The deadly curse is supposed to affect everyone who worked on digging up the tomb in the valley of the kings in Luxur, and anyone who tries to make money from the tomb in some way. The tomb was discovered by Howard Carter and Lord Carnavrvon in 1920. Lord Carnavrvon died from blood poisoning three months after the tomb was opened. No one thought this was strange until the writer Marie Corelli wrote to the New York World newspaper, saying she owned a book which told the story of the curse. Shortly after the death of Lord Carnavrvon, an American, Jay Gould, who said he had caught a cold while visiting the tomb, also died. Within a year, Prince Ali Kemal Fahmy Bey, who had visited the tomb, was shot dead by his wife. More curse deaths followed. However, a lot of evidence to the contrary also exists. Of the ten people who worked with Carnavrvon at the tomb, five lived another 20 years or so after working there, and two were still alive 40 years later. A guard also slept in the tomb for seven years and was discovered to be in perfect health. But the legend of the curse makes such a good story that people continue to tell it, despite this evidence. What do you think Beth? Do you like the legend this time or the previous love story is better than this one? I prefer Isis' story which shows the sincerity of a lover to her lover. Waiting for your comment on the legend. your friend from Egypt Suher alrayes
