Building on the work already taking place in schools linked to the World Cup, our objective is to make Global Citizenship a 'real' and exciting part of school life. Having representatives from each faculty within school as well as the School Council, House Reps and the Pastoral team, we hope to launch a series of themed events in the last half term. These will include a Diski competition (Dance - if like me you didn't know what that is), a themed canteeen menu, a 5 a side fotball comp, a 'League of Nations' form room focusing on a footballing nation, a Health and Fitness Day linked to football training and dietary info, a themed whole school fancy dress day..........to name but a few! Equally, all pupils in school in the penultimate week of term will follow a 'mini themed unit' and and have lessons based on carbon footprints, S.African history and music....in short, we'll use the World Cup as a vehicle to give identity to themes of ESDGC, and most importantly, make the learning fun, relevant and thought provoking. It's a big task which we hope will ultimately help us to link with a school in S. Africa and form the foundation for future projects and a long term partnership. If not, it would be great to work with local, national and international schools on something which I'm sure both staff and pupils can enjoy. Whatever happens, it's bound to be a rollercoaster of a ride!!
