Day of languages

Summary

Speaking foreign languages has become a valuable asset and the more languages you know, the better prospects you have! On 26 September we mark European Day of Languages, but we celebrate all world languages, not only European  ones! We would like to get in touch with as many schools from different parts of the world as possible in the course of September and learn as many words/phrases in different world languages. On the other hand, we can teach you some Serbian if you wish! Anybody willing to participate to a video conference? It would be great to see and hear students from all over the world!

We marked European Day of Languages on 25 September 2012.

First, we realized a lesson with a video conference with our partner school Bal Bharati Public School from New Delhi, India in which our students taught their peers a few words in their native languages, Serbian and Hindi. Then our friends shared with us some of their projects on Indian dances, famous people of their country, its history and sightseeing spots.

Later in the afternoon, we realized an event full of different activities.

We invited our ex-students, now undergraduates studying languages in Belgrade, Serbia; Austin, Texas, the USA and Ljubljana, Slovenia to join us in a video conference in which they talked about their experiences in learning languages and they taught us numbers, colours and greetings in the languages they speak, that is in Latin, Greek, Sanskrit, Japanese, Slovenian and Arabic. Our students prepared programme with rhymes and songs in 11 languages: Serbian, Bulgarian, Macedonian, Croatian, English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Polish and Russian which was followed by a school musical band performing Nirvana’s  and  their own songs in English. In the end, our ex-student Katarina Jovanovic, one of the last year’s “I’ve got talent” finalists, performed a few songs in English and French  ( ZAZ).
