Ghana before independence on the 6th of March 1957 was called Gold Coast. This name Gold Coast was given to Ghana by then because of the land been rich with gold. Ghana by then was colonised by the British before the country had its independence through Dr. Kwame Nkrumah who became the first president of the country.
