Dear Lynn and Jen,

Thank you both of you for providing our school an opportunity to learn together. Last year I did the same project with some schools and enjoyed.

We will discuss the project activities on this page. I hope it will be a great learning experience.

Hi Namita and welcome to group 6.

Lynn R and I were trying to delete some files that I'd uploaded incorrectly and accidentally deleted your file as well. I am so very sorry.

Could you please upload your file again, with a location tag in the title, so the classes know before clicking the link?

Thanks and I am so sorry

Thanks Namita!

The children are so excited! We began making predictions today, and will hopefully be able to view your files by the end of the week.

We hope that you enjoy our posts. There are a number of them, but the children worked very hard on them. We hope you love the winter pictures!!

We've made it! What's next?

Thank you again for the invitation to join this group.  I have posted our class video and added my link to the sidebar on this page.  I've read the outline and want to know if there are any other specific goals to this project other than having our classes make predictions about the other classes and report the outcomes?

Hi Deb,

I am sorry, while Lynn and I were trying to figure out things that I uploaded that did not work, we accidently erased what you and another partcipant also uploaded.

Could you please upload the file again? Then we (my class and I) can go on and see your presentation.

As far as our goals, we were hoping to just gain more insight about different geographical regions. It is our first time doing this project and we are still trying to figure it all out. Do you have any ideas?

Thanks so much and I am SO sorry :)

No problem.  I've just added it for you. It's actually showing more than a link this time so it worked out for the best.

According to stage two guidelines, we're supposed to record the student predictions of what they will see, however, I think I may have already violated that since they've looked at some of these images (oops).

I think I'll have my students watch all of the videos and then see what kind of questions they may have and take it from there.

Thanks,

Deb

Dear Jen,

Thanks for your invitation. I am really happy to do this project because I started this with my grade 6 students after I received your first invitation. This is the reason why I was able to upload some pictures and their works at once. Till my next message.

I really enjoy collaborating. I love to share the works of my students no matter what kind of work they had done. They are not really talented students in terms of drawing pictures and their knowledge in English but what I am proud of is their patience to learn things that they want to know. Take care of yourself. Don't work too much. When time to go to bed, do it. Forget your work for a moment. Next day will give you strength and energy.

Love and care,

Sally

I am wondering about a good way to get students more engaged with commenting or asking questions. They did make some predictions, but after that, I'd really like to find a way to collaborate and really "discuss" things we saw in the projects. Anyone have any ideas on how we can do this?

hi there Jen! We are delighted to join your group! We have already participated in Group 5 and so much of our work is already stored there! Today my class of 11 and 12 year olds is working on Friendship Flowers to send to you and your pupils. We hope you like them. WE have written some haikus and painted pictures of the view from our windows. We shall upload them as soon as possible.

My pupils and I, were very surprised to find that your school is not in Mexico, but in Mexico New York.

We are really looking forward to hearing from your pupils too.

Linda, In the US, it is very common for many towns and cities to be named for older towns or cities in other countries, as most of our original settlers were of course from Europe. In our immediate area alone, there are many towns with such names: Denmark, NY http://www.city-data.com/city/Denmark-New-York.html Syracuse, NY http://www.syracuse.ny.us/home.aspx Copenhagen, NY http://www.city-data.com/city/Copenhagen-New-York.html Those are just three that I can remember off the top of my head. I hope that this sparks some great discussion with your students. --Jen

Hello, sorry it has taken me so long to reply. We have had many holidays recently! Not complaining tho! UNfortunately our school system doesn't support Skype or Emodo. It would be great if we could work something out. I shall speak to our technical people and see what they suggest. WE do have a Scottish schools intranet which outsiders can join. It is called GLOW. We go on holiday in a few weeks until mid- August, so maybe in the new session we could investigate. Cheers, Linda

This is OK Sally! We understand. We will also be on holiday for 16 April to 24 April. We will then be back at school until the end of June, when we break for two months. I will then be getting a new set of students. I wanted to let everyone also know that our class is sharing more about what our school/ life/region is like on a few different websites. This is our facebook page. Click "like" to recieve updates in your facebook streams. Your students (if they have facebook) can also click "like" to follow http://www.facebook.com/pages/Miss-Laubschers-Class/140280602693801 We also have a class blog that you and your students can follow: www. grade3laubscher.posterous.com Thanks Jen Laubscher

On Holidays

Dear Jen,

Thanks for replying to my message. When our students come back to school on 3rd week of May, 2011, this is a new school year and the class I have for this project will be in grade 7 but I can follow up this topic with them.

You and I have the same problem about our students' interest in doing an activity. It's really difficult to have their full cooperation to do a project. I'm thinking ways of means on how to get their full interest and concern on my projects. If I have one, I will share them to you. Till my next message.

Regards,

Sally

Collaboration
Hello Partners, There is so much good information being shared in this group through the shows. I know that my students are quite appreciative. I am wondering if there is a way to get the students discussing what they see and want to learn more with eachother in the group. I am not sure how we could get this to happen. If anyone has a suggestion, please respond. :) Jen

Re: Collaboration

As it turns out, we had not viewed all of the videos on the website as I originally thought.   I was able to record my children's predicions of what they might expect to see outside the windows of the participating schools. After viewing all of the videos, they came up with a few questions to post here. (My daughter has misplaced the notebook of questions, but we are looking fervently for it!)

I expect to have this information posted within the next 10 days.

Predictions to be done by my students

My dear partners,

My uploading of information about the 2nd stage that is predicting your images might be slower than what I had expected.  When my students come back to school on the 3rd week of May, this will be a new grade level to them. There are so many things to be done first when organizing their new subjects with different and new subject teachers. I hope you understand my situation at the moment. My uploading of document might be slower and you will not be able to complete the project because of me. I apologize for this. I will be visiting the project page regularly to be updated.  Thank you very much.

Regards to all you,

Sally

My uploading of the next stage is also taking a long time. After we returned from our vacation, we have to prepare to take our New York State Exams. All of the children in grade 3 in NY are required to do this. We have been trying very hard to find time to work on stage 2, but it is difficult. I hope everyone will be patient with us. Thanks in advance, Jen

Edmodo

Hello everyone,

Deb from Massachusets has created an Edmodo group! We can have students go there to discuss the project if you are all agreeable to this.

She shared the code as -- qfymmr

You would need to create a teacher account, then join a group if you'd like to have students discuss using this method.

Thanks Deb!

The only other obstacle that we may face would be the time difference. We begin school at 9am Eastern Standard Time.We don't have too much flexibility with this as the children are not bussed to school until this time.

New membership

Dear Namita,

Aamina, my new friend applied to eLanguages for membership for 2 times already but until now  there's no reply send to her from eLanguages. What advice can you give her? She's really interested to join eLanguages and share her students ' works with us. I invited her and her friends through her to join my project 'Knowing a New Environment' and other projects that will interest them. Our It manager bought camera and headphones already so when your student back to school, we can schedule their online communication again.

Hoping that you are enjoying your vacation now. But I know you are not fully taking a good rest. I can still read the messages you are posting at CCO project pages. Anyway, take a rest so when you're back to school, you are strong and healthy to face the new responsibilities you will be encountering.

Love and care,

Sally

This is to tell everyone that this is our final full week of school for this year. We will be leaving next week for summer holidays. When the kids return, they will no longer be in my class. I am hoping to be able to pick up and do some more with the project next year with the new group of children.

I am posting our final posts/shows about what spring (early summer) looks like here in Mexico.

I hope you all have a lovely few months.
