Wildlife Photographer of the Year Exhibition 2006

Summary

The Wildlife Photographer of the Year Competition, organised by the Natural History Museum in London and BBC Wildlife Magazine, is the largest and most prestigious event of its kind. This year’s judges scrutinised more than 18,000 entries from amateur and professional photographers in 55 countries to find the winning shots. Each year it tours the world. It is coming to Abu Dhabi in February and March 2007. It is being sponsored by the four educational partners of the Abu Dhabi Educational Council on the Public Private Partnership project. It is primarily to be used as an educational resource for the 30 schools in the project, grades 4 and 5. This website has two purposes. First to allow the 30 schools to share ideas in exploiting the exhibition. Second, to allow schools in Abu Dhabi who are visiting the exhibition to work with schools from other countries around the world who have visited the exhibition.

Pre visit

This stage contains materials and ideas for use before students visit the exhibition. 1. For teachers, there are two key aspects. First, the educational purpose of the visit, and second, its organization.The following link to the Natural History Museum site gives excellent guidance for teachers planning a visit.

Visit

This stage contains materials and ideas for use by students in the course of a visit to the exhibition. 1. Games We are creating Jigsaw, I-Spy and memory card games for sub-groups of visiting children to play. These will be supervised by volunteers from HCT (AAW and ADW). 2. Student Questionnaires Although this sounds daunting, the set of samples available on the NHM link (below) are written for all ages. Take a look and see if any of these could be adapted for a visit to the exhibition by your children.

Our panel of judges will select the best picture for each age group (5, 6, 7, 8 etc)and announce the winners on here! The winners will then be automaticallly entered for the 2007 WPOTY Competition.
