Announcements about the British Council's VET project in Central and South Asia.
New Partnership opportunities
The British Council is looking for quality UK colleges that would like to form sustainable partnerships with training institutions in Central and Southern Asia (CSA), as an essential component of our Vocational Educational and Training (VET) project, Skills for Employability. In support of the national TVET reforms, the project aims to establish industry-driven curriculum pilots in key sectors of the economy that equip young people with the technical and generic skills that employers require. These will act as models of good practice, may contribute towards more widespread reform in the participating countries, and provide a platform for sustainable international relationships. The Partnerships will provide participating institutions with funded opportunities for staff development and exchange, new learning opportunities for students, active involvement in VET reform agenda’s and development of strong relationships in emerging markets. Grant funding of up to £23,000 per year is available for a maximum of 2 years, to commence 1st April 2009. Participating countries are Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Iran, Kazakhstan, Nepal, Pakistan and Uzbekistan. Partnerships are currently available in Bangladesh, Nepal, Pakistan and Afghanistan in the following occupational areas: Country Subject Area Afghanistan - Construction Bangladesh - Construction Nepal - Construction Pakistan - Engineering Application deadline 30th September 2008

Partnerships

Partnerships between colleges and training providers in UK and Central and Southern Asia are a key delivery mechanism for Skills for Employability. The partnerships should aim to develop pilot industry-linked curriculum packages that can be used as models of good practice - influencing wider VET reform by increasing the employability of VET graduates. Partnerships will faciliate interaction between teachers and students, and are a vital tool for encouraging greater inter-cultural understanding between UK and countries in Central and Southern Asia.
